Last week Jorge Martinez announced he will travel to Italy and meet with Aprilia to talk about the cancelled Moto2 project. That meeting was scheduled for yesterday, but Aprilia has further delayed the talks with Aspar for Thursday.
In the meantime however Aspar sent sport director Gino Borsoi to the Noale factory early in order to take a look at the already finished Aprilia Moto2 bike and what he heard was very promising.
“Gino has seen the finished bike already and he told me that its features are spectacular and that, without a doubt, it is the best Moto2 we have seen until now which is understandable, given the enormous experience of Aprilia and its technicians from the world championship. That’s why it’s so good and I am still waiting for it.”
Martinez will be trying to get the already finished chassis from Aprilia and further develop them on his own and under a different name. Gigi Dall’Igna, sport director of Aprilia, slightly opens the door for this possibility:
“Aprilia will not run in Moto2, that is certain. The decision comes from above and is not debatable. What we are trying now is to save the work that’s already been done until today. For that reason we will see if we can put the project on an external track, but it is not easy and the partner must be absolutely reliable. The project would not be called Aprilia, but still, there is the possibility that the bike will only be seen in the museum. It will definitely be that way if it’s not on the track for the test on 9th December.”
